Attractions in and around Hobart

MONA
The Museum of Old and New Art is the most popular visitor attraction in Tasmania and features word-class displays of modern and traditional art in a stunning location.

Booking is essential – https://mona.net.au/ Tickets currently $35, or $30 concession. Tasmanians are admitted free but must pay a refundable $10 deposit

The MONA Ferry leaves the Hobart docks regularly through the year or you can drive there in about 20-25 minutes from the City. Opening days are Friday – Monday at present.

Salamanca
The Salamanca precinct is a row of 19th C warehouses housing cafes, restaurants, bars galleries and retail stores. Situated around 10-12 minute walk from the exhibition hotel and exhibition venue, Salamanca is in the Docks area which also includes restaurants and cafes and the departure point for the Mona ferry. The famous Salamanca Market is held every Saturday from 8:30 – 3:30.

Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery

The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery is just a couple of minutes walk down the street from the exhibition venue. Entry is free and the Museum houses the best collection of Colonial Art in Australia. Many other displays include maritime history, Tasmanian fauna including the Tasmanian Tiger (thylacine), Devil etc. The museum is housed in historic Georgian and Victorian sandstone buildings. www.tmag.tas.gov.au/home
